Paul Porter Arena: Gardner-Webb Athletics
Built in 1983, and renovated in 2008, the 4,500 seat Paul Porter Arena is located inside the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center on campus in Boiling Springs. Porter Arena is a versatile facility, offering locker rooms and meeting space for Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Volleyball, while serving as the main hub for the Department of Athletics. Within the convocation center also housed is an athletic training facility for student-athletes and the offices for Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Volleyball. Three auxiliary locker rooms for athletic officials and visiting teams.
Gardner-Webb holds a tremendous home court advantage, with crowds annually among the conference’s best. The 2014 Volleyball team broke their attendance record for the 4th time in four seasons, averaging 475 fans per match – good for third-highest attendance in the Big South Conference. The Runnin’ Bulldogs’ home-court advantage is helped tremendously by “The Dawg Pound,” which is a student group that provides plenty of noise and enthusiasm during matches.
The Volleyball locker room is located inside the LYCC-Paul Porter Arena and is only steps away from the floor the Runnin’ Bulldogs call home. Located near the Athletic Training room, the hallway leading to the locker room is adorned with banners recognizing individual accomplishments and a memorial honoring key players from the past. The locker room has theatre-style seating in the center of the room facing a flat-screen TV monitor for leisure and watching game video sessions. Surrounding the seating are individual mahogany lockers for each student-athlete with a bench seat and extra storage.
The Volleyball coaching staff suite is located in the northwest corner of the arena itself, overlooking the newly named Eddie Holbrook Court.
The Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center serves as the primary gathering place for the university’s large gatherings (commencement, Dimensions, etc). The building houses Gardner-Webb’s primary auditorium, the Dover Theatre. It is also home to Paul Porter Arena, and houses Athletics Administrative offices and locker rooms.
